Welcome to the RBS Six Nations Championships, which is Europe’s top Rugby competition. It has been taking place this year since Saturday 6th February 2010 and will conclude on Saturday 20th March 2010. For rugby fans the Championship warms up the winter months often with some of the most pulsating competitive matches imaginable.
France all but clinched the Six Nations championship last week with a resounding win by 46-20 over Italy at the Stade Francais. The win has given them a 100% record so far in the race, but more importantly at this stage, they have an almost unassailable points differential from the only other team who could catch them, Ireland.
It is all systems go now for Les Bleus to defeat England this week in Paris and claim their first Grand Slam since 2004. Should they lose however, Ireland could catch them on points but would need to beat Scotland by a huge amount and hope that England can beat the French also by an emphatic amount in order to cover the current 50 point differential. Ireland however do have the consolation of the Triple Crown if they beat Scotland at Croke Park next week
In the latest games played last week, Ireland played at their clinical best to defeat a Welsh side that could not match the Irish resolve and who once again suffered after losing a player to the sin bin midway through the first half. In the Calcutta match at Murrayfield, a dour battle could not separate the Scots and the English, who drew 15-15 in an otherwise forgettable match. Scotland will now need to beat Ireland next week to avoid the ‘Wooden Spoon’. See latest results below.
France are now unbackable at 1/25 odds on to win the Championship and 1/5 odds on the claim the Grand Slam. Ireland meanwhile are a 4/11 odds on bet to win the Triple Crown.

The most recent winning Nations of the Six Nations are as follows:
England, World cup finalists in 2007, last won the Six Nations in 2003; that year they were also crowned Champions of the World when they won the Rugby World Cup. Scotland last won in 1999 and look to be one of the big outsiders for the title on current form.
Italy joined the Championship in 2000 and has yet to win and as usual will be the outsiders again this year. You will be able to view the Six Nations Results on our site when the competition gets underway.
The Championship roots date back to 1883, when the four home nations played a round robin event, with the winners receiving the Triple Crown. That trophy is still played for as a tournament within the Six Nations. The Championship and the Six Nations History is a compelling read.
